The Journey of Music and Charity Continues: Wish 107.5 Introduces Wish Rider on 8th Anniversary

A first since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020, Wish 107.5 held a live anniversary show titled “Cycle of Life” on August 28, 2022, Sunday, at the Marikina Sports Center. This event is in commemoration of the radio station’s eighth year in the industry.

Thousands of people took part in the landmark occasion, wherein the Wish Rider was unveiled.

Wish 107.5 made a mark in the industry with the introduction of innovative endeavors that combine music and charity. Further amplifying this commitment is the launch of Wish Rider.

This project is powered by music, mobility, and advocacy. Primarily, its purpose is to make charity even more accessible for all by granting wishes, both big and small. And to kick things off, eight beneficiaries received free tricycles during the event. This is in hopes of aiding their livelihood and transport needs.

Staying true to being a champion of Filipino music, Wish 107.5, led by Wish Rider, will also go out and continue searching for OPM talents. In previous years, the station has become instrumental in discovering up-and-coming artists through its own competition, Wishcovery.

Wish Rider also embodies the station’s newest advocacy for safe riding. On his future rides, he will be handing out safety gear and accessories to motorists. These are apart from the free merchandise such as vehicle stickers that he will be giving away.

On social media, he will also be imparting tips on how motorists can help make roads safer for all.

In celebration of the project’s unveiling, around 1,000 riders also participated in a motorcade aptly dubbed “Wish Ride.” This activity, which officially commenced the anniversary show, had two starting points: the KDR Adventure Camp in Orani, Bataan, and Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.

On Sunday’s event, eight lucky raffle draw winners also took home brand-new motorcycles, including Suzuki Sky Dive Sport, Suzuki Avenis, Honda Click 125i, Yamaha Mio Gear 125, TVS Dazz, and Royal Alloy 150 cc. Other prizes included helmets and exclusive merchandise.

Pumped-up performances

Another highlight of the event was a live concert that thrilled the crowd of Wishers, music fans, and motoring aficionados. Pinoy rock icon Jett Pangan, alt-rock troupe Mayonnaise, and Journey frontman Arnel Pineda headlined the show.

“I always enjoy performing for Wish and the Wishers because they’re so supportive and solid!,” Pangan, who is best known as the vocalist of ace OPM band The Dawn, shared in an interview.

“With every Wish performance, I see how there are so many more Filipinos who truly support our own artists — and that inspires me to create even more music in my journey of 30-plus years,” he added.

Completing the roster of performers are Zild, Shanne Dandan, Jason Fernandez, CLR, Pricetagg, and Wishcovery alumni Peniel and Kim Baluzo.

Fernandez stated that performing for the station “is always an honor.”

“To be lined up with great OPM acts during a Wish event, what else can you ask for?,” he said in the vernacular.

Along the same lines, Zild got candid about how he was nervous knowing that “some of the audience are musicians that [he] looks up to.”

The concert was also streamed on the Wish YouTube channel and Facebook page.

The journey continues

In 2014, Wish 107.5 caused a shift in the scene when it unveiled the Wish Bus. The fully outfitted vehicle is capable of hosting live radio shows and performances, bringing artists closer to the people.

Over the past eight years, the station continued to introduce game-changing endeavors. These include the Wish Music Awards (WMAs), where winning acts are given the chance to give cash donations to their chosen beneficiaries.

In a statement, Pineda, who was named KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy during the 6th WMAs, shared: “I’m [very] grateful because my own foundation, the Arnel Pineda Foundation Inc., has been a very fortunate recipient of the station’s generosity. At the same time, I also had the chance to be part of a beautiful project that gives back, helps, and inspires others.”

Wishcovery Originals grand winner Peniel also lauded what the station is doing for people in need.

“It makes everything they do so much more meaningful knowing every celebration and every big event includes everyone in mind. They’re all grand not only by scale but by purpose,” the singer-songwriter remarked.

The launch of Wish Rider emphasizes the station’s long-standing commitment to pursue meaningful projects centered on the very things that keep them forward: music and charity.
