Mar 20, 2023

Irish pop-rock icons The Corrs will be back in Manila for a two-night show.

On October 21 and 22, 2023, Saturday and Sunday, siblings Andrea (lead vocals), Sharon (violin, piano, vocals), Caroline (drums, piano, vocals), and Jim (guitar, piano, vocals) will perform at the Araneta Coliseum — with PULP Live World serving as the producer.

PULP announced the event earlier this month and tickets started to go on sale on March 19, Sunday.

VVIP seats are worth Php22,500; VIP A, Php18,500; VIP B, Php15,000; Lower Box, Php12,000; Upper Box A, Php8,500; Upper Box B, Php7,500; and General Admission, Php3,500. You can buy on Ticketnet’s website or in any of their outlets nationwide.

A guaranteed nostalgia-fest

“The Corrs Live in Manila” comes after over two decades since the band’s last Philippine concert. In 2001, they also played the Big Dome for their “In Blue” tour in support of their third studio album.

Recalling the last time The Corrs were in the country, Twitter user twgame (@tw202203) commented on PULP’s social media announcement: “…[M]emories from their last concert (the one that was re-scheduled). [I]t was so special when they performed ‘Don’t Say You Love Me’… and it was Caroline who got the longest and loudest cheer/clap when the band members were introduced.”

The Manila leg of the said show was notably rescheduled back then due to Andrea’s ear infection.

On Instagram, social media sensation Macoy Averilla (a.k.a. macoydubs) simply quipped, “OMG childhood,” summing up the excitement that long-time fans felt.

Irish stalwarts

The Corrs debuted in 1995 and introduced their music — “an enchanting mix of traditional Celtic music with a pop-rock twist” — with their “Forgiven Not Forgotten” album. They have since sold more than 40 million records worldwide.

The quartet is known for their hits, such as “Runaway,” “Breathless,” “All the Love in the World,” “What Can I Do,” and “So Young.” The last two songs are taken from their sophomore effort, “Talk on Corners, “ which turned 25 last year.

Producer and musician T. Bone Burnett, who worked with them on their 2017 record “Jupiter Calling,” has this to say about their craft: “I love The Corrs’ deep, generous spirit. I love their writing and their singing and their playing.”

“I love the people of Ireland — their music, their literature, and their art — and The Corrs are the most soulful exemplars of that mystical land,” T. Bone further enthused.

After their Big Dome show, the musical siblings will perform in Australia and New Zealand

With their recently announced gig, The Corrs join the roster of acts who are sparking ‘90s and early ‘00s nostalgia in the local concert circuit. In February, iconic boy bands Westlife and Backstreet Boys held sold-out concerts on the same date.
