The Rose, wave to earth, and More: Korean Wishclusives You Might Have Missed

Jun 5, 2024

With nearly a decade since the Wish Bus was launched, it’s no secret how it has become a go-to platform for sharing music. The musical vehicle — capable of hosting live radio broadcasts and performances — has already staged hundreds of “Wishclusives” rendered by artists from different genres and across different generations.

Proving to be a platform that breaks boundaries, it has also welcomed talented acts from the global scene, including Korean artists.

Ahead of the anticipated unveiling of a brand-new Wish Bus in South Korea on June 9, we’ve rounded up Wishclusive performances spotlighting Korean music.

The Rose — “Sorry”

There’s something bittersweet about seeing someone reflect on the memories and times they shared with a former flame. In this Wishclusive, we see The Rose — currently gaining fame as “K-rock’s BTS” — deliver a poignant expression of sorrow. The song “Sorry” is about the regret the narrator feels. It acknowledges his selfishness and the mistakes he made that drove him and his lover apart.

“Sorry” served as the band’s debut mainstream single and was released in 2017. The four-piece act comprises Kim Woo-sung (vocals, guitar), Park Do-joon (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Lee Ha-joon (drums), and Lee Jae-hyeong (bass).

Long before their official launch, the band has already been performing at busking events. They write their own music, establishing themselves as some of the most talented singer-songwriters in the Korean rock music scene. The band first visited the country in 2019 for their We Rose You Live tour. It was also when they staged this Wish Bus performance.

wave to earth — “seasons”

With the desire to “become the new wave” — a force to be reckoned with on the global stage —  wave to earth made their way into listeners’ hearts with music that’s authentic, vulnerable, and downright relatable.

The indie rock trio is composed of Daniel Kim, Soonjong Cha, and Dong Q. In this Wishclusive, they brought their dreamy sound to the Wish Bus and performed one of their signature hits, “seasons.” The song delves into the emotions that come with loving someone with the purest intentions while holding back due to the fear of causing harm.

Seori — “Cinderella”

We may all know Cinderella as the quintessential fairytale sweetheart — but in Seori’s track, this name takes on a whole new persona. “Cinderella,” the song, is all about keeping things real and not getting bothered by clichés.

Here, the Korean singer-songwriter emphasizes that love and happiness are not dependent on material possessions or the opinions of others. She sends a message of self-empowerment and confidence that will inspire you to embrace your true self. “Haters gon’ hate; I couldn’t care lеss,” Seori unapologetically sings in the chorus.

Baek So-hyun in real life, Seori made her solo debut in 2020. Prior to that, she captured the attention of netizens with her song covers on YouTube. Her Roadshow interview with us will take you through her beginnings and milestones as a musician.

TFN — “Amazon”

Though the members of TFN may have already gone their separate ways, there’s no denying that “Amazon” is a banger. In this track, the artists describe life in modern society as a “survival of the fittest” — and cheer on those who are trying their best to make it through.

The Korean-Japanese boy group — made of Noa, Sian, Kevin, Gunwoo, Leo, On, Zero, Kairi and Kio — first debuted as T1419 before becoming TFN. TFN is short for Try for New. The news of their disbandment was announced in February this year.

Commemorating their talent, we look back on their Wishclusive performance, during which they showcased their musicality. You can further relive their Wish Bus stint through this Roadshow Interview, where they talk more about “Amazon” and share their experience promoting their music in the Philippines.

Lapillus — “HIT YA”

Energetic and brimming with bravado, Lapillus’ “HIT YA” is a fitting debut for a girl group with singing and rapping chops that deserve to be heard. The well-received track got its Wishclusive rendition back in September 2022 when the group visited the country to do local promotions.

Lapillus is composed of artists from different countries — Chanty (Philippines), Shana (Japan), Yue (China), Bessie (South Korea), Seowon (South Korea), and Haeun (South Korea). The group’s name was derived from Latin, and one of its meanings is “jewel.” While they shine collectively as a group, each individual member has her own unique sparkle.
