Wish 107.5 has declared August “Wish Month” in commemoration of its fifth year in the industry. And Wishers — the station’s avid supporters — were in for a treat when the month-long celebration officially began on August 1, Thursday.
During the kick-off event held at the Ayala Malls Circuit Makati, several OPM acts, both veterans and up-and-coming, boarded the Wish 107.5 Bus and shared their songs. The line-up was led by OPM rock veterans Barbie Almalbis and Imago.
Almalbis’ set featured two cuts off her latest EP, the titular track “Tigre” and “Cover.” Marking new beginnings, Imago meanwhile performed their latest single “Pag-ibig Na Walang Balik,” featuring their new vocalist Kiara San Luis.
Esteemed OPM outfit Side A teamed up with indie singer-songwriter Keiko Necesario for “No More Tears.” They also serenaded the crowd with another original, “Di Pa Huli.”
One of the most sought-after bands today, Autotelic offered their brand of pop-rock musicality and performed their hit “Laro” and the newest offering, “Kahit.” Music Hero, another promising pop-rock ensemble, lent their musical prowess to entertain the crowd with “LDR” and “KLWKN.”
Also included in the list of performers are Iktus, who brought their latest single “Happy Ending;” vocal ensemble 5thGen, who mesmerized the audience with their take on A Great Big World’s “Say Something;” and pop songstress Sassa, who returned to the Wish Bus to render her original tracks “Picking Petals” and “Pasensya Ka Na.”
Wish Bus first-timers M$TRYO and Frankie Pangilinan also showcased their respective sounds; the former conquering the musical hub with his rap piece “Divisoria,” and the latter offering her “unapologetically genuine” break-up anthem, “TYL.”
Rhea Basco, who proved her worth in the music scene with her first place-win at Wishcovery Season 2, completed the roster of the musical guests. She gave her own spin to The Lion King theme song, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” (Check out more photos of the artists here.)
While Wish is known for mounting musical spectacles, at the core of its endeavors is its unwavering desire to offer charitable acts. And since Day 1, the station has stayed true to its name by initiating and sustaining a wish-granting advocacy.
During the Wish Month kick-off, lucky Wishers from the metro as well as from Cebu and Bacolod had their simple wishes fulfilled — from having school supplies, owning his copy of the Bible, receiving a birthday cake to giving their loved ones medical equipment like a nebulizer and a blood pressure machine.
“With God’s help, when we conceptualize something, we are always thinking of how we can extend the charity works that we are doing. And that’s the reason why Wish is here. What we really want is to be an instrument in granting other people’s wishes,” Kuya Daniel shared in a previous interview.
As another way of giving back to Wishers, Wish will also hand out exclusive merchandise items like shirts and jackets via giveaway promos on the air, online, and during on-ground activations throughout the month.
The “Wish Month” is a fitting commemoration of what Wish 107.5 has achieved for the past five years.
Since its unveiling, the station has already launched three Wish Buses — two in the Philippines and one in the United States. The musical vehicles in the country are used to bring artists to different parts of the metro and to key cities in the provinces. The Wish USA Bus, on the other hand, is dedicated to welcoming artists based on the Western shores.
Besides conquering the airwaves with an all-hits playlist and the road with its buses, Wish has also intensified its efforts to boost its digital presence. Its YouTube channel, in particular, has become a formidable source of top-quality music videos.
Collectively called as “Wishclusives,” these high-definition videos feature Wish Bus performances of acts across different genres and “eras” in music.
As of writing, the channel has over 6 million subscribers coming from different parts of the globe.
The number 365 is representative of the key milestones Wish has achieved: Three Wish buses, six million YouTube subscribers, and five years in the industry. As such, it has fittingly named its Wish Month’s culminating event, the “365 Anniversry Concert.”
The star-studded show will be headlined by Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan, total performer Darren Espanto, and three of the hottest OPM bands today — Ben&Ben, December Avenue, and IV of Spades.
The line-up will also include folk-pop sensation Syd Hartha, OPM band 3rd Avenue, plus a special surprise guest.
Vocal quintet The Wishfuls — composed of Princess Sevillena, Kim Baluzo, Louie Culala, Carmela Ariola, and Ace Bartolome — and rising belter Rhea Basco will complete the roster of performers. These artists are all products of Wish 107.5’s own online talent search, Wishcovery.
