7 Things to Know About Six Part Invention

Six Part Invention emerged to the Pinoy music scene in 2006. So much has happened to the band since then. Through this list, let’s take a glance at the band’s journey – how they started, how they made their name in the OPM industry, and how they continue to share their music until now.

1. Six Part Invention (SPI) is originally composed of six members; hence, their band name. The now four-piece band decided to keep their name regardless of their number. The current members are Rey Cantong (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards), Kaye Malana (lead vocals), Tag Cantong (drums and percussion), and Andy Dela Cruz (bass).

2. Rey and Kaye are real-life lovers.

3. SPI started building their name through their songs being featured in famous commercials. These commercial hits are “All This Time”, “Only For You”, and “Sana’y Ako Na Lang”.

4. In 2006, they released their self-titled debut album, marking a milestone in the band’s career.

5. The band draws influences from the likes of Journey, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, and Dream Theater.

6. Some songs of the band were featured as theme songs in famous Filipino television series. Their hit songs “Umaasa Lang Sa’yo” and “Falling in Love” were part of the soundtracks for the respective teleseryes, “Sana Maulit Muli” and “Agua Bendita”.

7. Recently, SPI released their latest album called “Stripped and Covered”, under Universal Records.

During a Roadshow guesting, Six Part Invention performed their latest hit single “The Flame”. It is now nominated in the upcoming Wish 107.5 Music Awards as Best WISHclusive performance by a Group.
